September 12, 2009
in partnership with Underground Food Collective

Bike the Barns is a spectacular fundraising bicycle ride through the countryside southwest of Madison, Wisconsin. This year's 52-mile ride highlights three local CSA and direct market farms and, once again, features artisan local food presented by Underground Food Collective. This ride is a bit hilly, but all levels of cyclists are welcome and encouraged to be part of a wonderful day that benefits an important and meaningful cause.

A special thanks to all that made this a fantastic event! We hope you'll join us in 2010!

This ride is our major fundraising event, and each year more participants help raise money for limited income families and individuals to have access to fresh, organic vegetables from local farms. We ask that each ride participant set a fundraising goal of $50. All proceeds, including pledges collected by bike riders, will support Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition's Partner Shares Program. Since Partner Shares’ inception in 1997, over 2,300 low-income households have received fresh local food.

If you can't ride, PLEASE consider supporting Partner Shares by pledging a rider, the Carrot Cruiser, MACSAC's ghost rider, or making a general donation to MACSAC.

This year fabulous prizes will be announced and given to the top fundraisers at the Finale Celebration at Elver Park. Join us for a closing celebration with Bike the Barns volunteers, MACSAC farmers and staff at Elver Park from 4-7:30pm. $20 tickets to the Finale Celebration include a beverage and grilled pizza.

Preparation for the Ride

ROUTE MAP

We strongly encourage you to tune up your bikes and your bodies before the ride. The ride will have sag wagon support throughout the ride. As well as support cyclists throughout the ride.

As mentioned, the route has some hills. If you're not used to riding hills, or if you haven't done rides longer than 25 miles, we suggest you try a few rides with hills between now and September 12th! Bike riders will be traveling at various paces, and there is lots of time allotted to complete each section of the ride.

Stay tuned for email updates and postings about biker safety and preparation.
